A pleasure to have our Swedish buyer – at our Biodynamic and Organic wine estate.
We were delighted to be selected by Peter Richards MW, as one of the 30 great New World wines, in the February edition of the renowned Decanter magazine. Peter says
“The London IT industry’s loss was Elgin’s gain when Marion and Brian Smith upped sticks and launched a biodynamic wine estate. This is a complex, spicy, highly original Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon blend with beautiful texture, huge energy and a delightfully funky edge.”
Peter selected our Chaos White 2016 as one of his “30 great New World buys under £30” – chosen from over 1,000 potential candidates – which represent the “most intriguing, exciting and mould-breaking winemaking in the world today”!

2018 started at Elgin Ridge with our very first harvest of certified Biodynamic oat seeds, harvested from from cover crop planted between rows of vines.
The oats were saved after baling the straw bales grown and harvested by our team.
The oat seeds will be used for next years cover crop and the straw bales will be used as feed for our Dexter herd of cattle during winter.
Some days we marvel at the wonders of nature and the magnificent views we have here at Elgin Ridge
Don’t forget we are open for wine tasting and sales 7 days a week!
Our opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 10h00 until 16h00, Sunday from 10h00 until 14h00.
Come and enjoy a glass of our Elgin cool climate wines in our Tasting Room and enjoy the view as you sip on our organic wines, or on the balcony, whilst watching the activity in the vineyards of our organic wine estate.
Our squad of Peking ducks are in charge of pest control at our biodynamic and organic wine estate, scoffing up all of the snails, slugs and other creepy-crawlies in the vineyards. If you visit us around 4pm, you can watch them returning to their duck house all in a row.
At Elgin Ridge we have a small flock of Dorper sheep, and every day they go to work, mowing the grass between the rows of vines in the vineyards.
Here is the team on their way to the vineyards, and the sky really was that blue on this beautiful sunny day in the Elgin Valley
Brian hosting our Japanese importer, who popped in for a quick 4 hour tasting yesterday, we couldn’t resist also tasting, the, a Cabernet Franc, Elgin Ridge has made with our friends over at Luddite. Brian and Niels joint venture is lauded as the most expensive wine in South Africa
Such a lovely lady, our wines are in very good hands
Look how well our certified biodynamic and organic Semillon vines growing and developing for more Chaos white, it will be a few years before we get grapes though as it takes 3-4 years to get a crop from newly planted vines. Each vine is lovingly tended to by a memebr of our vineyard team.
